Senior Traffic Engineer

Our project engineers are key to the success of Sabra, Wang & Associates, Inc. and integral in providing our clients the best possible deliverable.  The Senior Traffic Engineer will work with a team of engineers to deliver complete traffic engineering and ITS projects including traffic signal, MOT, signing & pavement marking, and lighting design; traffic signal timing/multi-modal operations; and traffic analysis, modeling & simulation.  Responsibilities include assisting with winning or obtaining new task proposals; developing scope of work and fee estimates; performing technical work; managing budgets; coordinating with internal clients, external clients, and public stakeholders; and delivering complete projects to clients.


The Project Engineer is expected to:

  • Prepare bid-ready design plans, specifications and cost estimates
  • Perform traffic modeling and simulation studies using Synchro, VISSIM, and HCS
  • Perform traffic operations analysis and field observations and develop traffic engineering countermeasures
  • Optimize traffic signal timing and phasing
  • Write technical reports
  • Design and deliver presentations at technical meetings
  • Write and manage company responses to Requests for Proposals
  • May include working at other offices (DC, MD, VA, DE area)


Requirements to be successful include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering
  • Professional Engineer license (DC/MD preferred)
  • Six years of Traffic/ITS engineering experience
  • PTOE Certification a plus
  • Proficiency with SYNCHRO, Microstation, VISSIM, HCM/HCS
  • Experience working on state Department of Transportation On-Call Traffic Engineering and ITS contracts
  • Previous Experience with DDOT projects preferred
