Sabra & Associates, Inc. (SAI) was tasked to perform a comprehensive station area planning effort for four stations with significant pedestrian and bicycle access challenges as part of a long-term station area land use and redevelopment plan.  Work efforts include:


  • Performing a field review of existing non-motorized transportation network characteristics and identifying gaps and barriers
  • Coordinating with MTA and MD SHA on the Purple Line Locally Preferred Alternative alignment, station location, cross-sections and proposed roadway improvements
  • Reviewing and refining previous studies including the Kenilworth Avenue Corridor Plan, University of Maryland M-Squared Research Park
  • Identifying and mapping station area walk sheds and isochrones
  • Developing recommendations for enhanced safety improvements for each station area including identifying enhanced connections to transit for pedestrians and bicycles including trails, sidepaths, designated bike lanes and routes, and improved crossings
  • Identifying new roadway connections, traffic controls and street configurations to support redevelopment opportunities
  • Evaluating station area parking impacts and needs
  • Evaluation and development of implementation and financing strategies
  • Participating in extensive community outreach efforts including visioning workshops, charrettes and open house forums
